It looks like it is time to retire our original rental hot tub. The guys brought it around to get it ready for a rental this weekend and she has a big crack in one of the hoses. We had already decided this spring that we would only do onsite rentals and I guess this was her way of agreeing. We still have the 12 person so the people that had booked the 6 person better invite a few more to the party because they are getting upgraded to the 12 person. It is kind of a sad time because that is where Rubber Ducky started almost 7 years ago now. That tub has put on a lot miles and has a lot of memories in it. Maybe we should raise it to the rafters??

Now we have another project for this summer – design and build a replacement hot tub.

Ready, set, go

Other than a few tenting sites we are completely booked for this weekend. All of our rooms are even booked out during the weekend. This is a good breakthrough for us as they have not been as busy as we had hoped. They have had their good weekends for sure, but this year there seems to be a lot more awareness that they are here. Although we are full and it will be busy this weekend, we say it is a good kind of busy. The majority of campers we already know either from them having stayed with us before or just know them personally. So I am not forseeing any major ‘issues’ this weekend  and it will be as relaxing as a long weekend can get. The weather seems to have straightened around which is going to make things more enjoyable for everyone.

We are slowly working through our to-do lists to get things ship shape and ready to go. Today will be the last day to do the ‘work’ part. We had one camper arrive last night and another two more are coming tonight. So, the weekend is getting off to an early start. We have had a couple from Alberta staying here since Monday and they have just booked for tonight as well.  There was also another lady who came in on Monday that I have to tip my hat to. She has been travelling in a small class C for the past 8 months or so – just her and her dog. She was telling us that she has been to Florida, spent the winter in Arizona and then to California. She managed to find her way through here on her way back home to Ontario, (near Toronto I believe).  She left here on Tuesday and spent the day at Oak Hammock Marsh, then decided to come back for another night. From what I gather she has been visiting friends and family along the way. It takes a lot of courage to do all that travelling on her own. I don’t know many people that would do something like that.

Sunday night movie

I picked out the movies for this Sunday and it was not easy. I had already decided a couple of days ago that I would put on the Bee movie at around 6:30. Then I had to find something for the older age group (I learned last year that people take it the wrong way if I say adult movie). There was absolutley nothing interesting on pay-per-view right now. All the movies seemed like very dramatic, serious movies and that is just not what I was looking for. I try to appeal to as broad an audience as I can since we have anywhere from teenagers to grandparents that may want to watch the movie. So Sarah and I headed to see what there was to rent at the store. There were a couple that looked good, but one was an unrated version and it just didn’t look very family friendly. The other one I wasn’t too sure on the content so I didn’t want to take a chance on it. I finally decided on Mr. Woodcock. It is rated PG-13 and the reviews that I saw said there were some language warnings and drug references, so nothing major. This is a link to a description of what the movie is about http://www.newline.com/properties/mrwoodcock.html

You could shoot a cannon through here..

or a potato gun. (lol, bit of an inside joke for those in the know)

To say it was dead around here this weekend is a bit of an understatement. Friday night there was not soul around here. Saturday morning I think everyone felt the same as me – I was hibernating in the house whenever I could. Last night though the wind finally died and the sun came out making it a lovely April evening. Oh, but it’s May isn’t it? We did have one seasonal and one camper come in yesterday afternoon. Looking out the window I have high hopes for today. There is not a cloud in the sky, it looks like a bright summer day right now. Last night when I looked at the forecast they were calling for a high of 16 and I am not even going to look again today in case they have changed it already.

The campers that are here are taking advantage of our pay-as-you-go camping. They pay for this weekend and next and get to leave their camper set up and unplugged. Now, they are set to relax and enjoy the May Long. As of right now we are pretty booked up for the weekend. I have only one room left, and 2 RV sites. There are still lots of tenting sites left, but I am not surprised. You have to be a die hard to tent in weather like this.

It’s now time to figure out how big of a pig we are going to need for next weekend’s May Long Pig Roast. I am thinking that on Sunday I will run a BBQ pork on a bun special as well. Try that out and see what the response is. This is our first May long with this many sites. Last year we did not have phase 2 open yet.

Well we had to do one of the toughest parts of owning a campground tonight. It was time to test drive the hot tub and make sure it was suitable for paying customers. And, the good news is that it is just as relaxing as ever.

This weekend is supposed to be nicer weather wise than last, but yet we have only one campsite booked and last weekend we had 5. They still clain the sun will shine this afternoon and I hope so it is still quite chilly out now. At least the long term says it will keep warming up until the long weekend.

I need a home!!

We are looking for a home for our “Smoky”. She showed up at the campground last summer and decided to adopt us as her new home. She has obviously been a house cat before and needs a real home again. We can’t bring her into our house because we already have a grumpy old cat that doesn’t like any other kitties in this territory. She absolutely loves people and kids (as you can tell from the picture). You will always find here wherever the kids are.

Can someone please help this kitty find a new home? She comes with her food dish, litter box and some food.

A little bit of sun, a little bit of warm and all the people come out.

Needless to say on Sunday our visitor count on our website was down quite a bit. Noone gets too interested in camping when the snow is falling. Yesterday however we had a big jump. At one point in the morning we had 35 visitors checking us out and I got quite a few more bookings. We are now at 7 RV campsites left for the May Long Weekend. As usual we will be having our annual May Long Pig Roast. I actually made it a Luau weekend. I have some decorations, got some Luau music, and am making a Limbo pole.

As of yesterday our pool is officially ready for swimming, now all we need is warm weather. The temperature in the pool yesterday was 80 degrees. The temperature out of the pool is another story. It actually wouldn’t have been too bad in the afternoon with the sun shining and not much wind.

Dennis picked up a BBQ for our raffle yesterday and also a couple new ones for the suites. Now, we have a few hours of construction to put them together. With any luck all the pieces will be there and not damaged. Last year we got home and started to put it together and the front panel was all dented so we had to head back into the city to get a new one.

What happened??!!

I didn’t know that we offered winter camping. As I sit here looking outside the ground is getting whiter and whiter. Snow in May – What’s up with that? I think it is time to band together to fight Mother Nature. We should pick a day and time- let’s say Thursday May 8 at 9:00- and everyone stop what they are doing to cross their fingers and wish upon a star for HOT HOT weather. Ok it is probably not going to help, but it certainly won’t hurt.

We were having a pretty good weekend considering the weather. We have 5 overnight sites come out to kick off the camping season. Two of them are actually sleeping in t t tents. I shiver just trying to type it. Quite a few of the seasonals were out yesterday to check on their campers after the winter and two stayed the night. We had one new seasonal bring their camper in yesterday and another head out. We rented our first garden plot yesterday as well.

Saturday morning was our welcome back coffee break. We had a couple campers come out for the freebies, but I was surprised that more didn’t come. Geri also brought some delicious birthday cake for Metro’s big day so we had that with our coffee as well. It was movie night in the evening and we watched Dan in Real Life. I missed the first half, but what I did see was pretty good.  Next week is movie night again but I’m not sure yet what the movie will be. I kind of wait till I see what type and age of crowd we have here before I make a final decision.

Needless to say things are pretty slow around the concession building this morning. Other than coming in to get water everyone seems to be hiding in their campers. We have one tent and one camper staying for another night and one other camper taking advantage of our pay as you go camping. (leaving the camper parked here until next weekend) The other tenting people just headed out the driveway, that couldn’t have been much fun packing up this morning.

Hopefully this nasty white stuff stops soon. Remember Thursday 9:00pm – tell all your friends.

Tuesday

I just read an article that says that Tuesday is the most productive day of the week. The reasoning is that on Monday we are still doing stuff from last week and on Wednesday we have already started adding things to our to-do list. So on Tuesdays we have the most time to complete tasks on our lists. So – how was your Tuesday? Was it productive? I would have to say our Tuesday was fairly productive. We spent the morning in Winnipeg picking up supplies; Dennis got the heat pumping into the pool!!! and this afternoon I got finished my flower bed project. I think that I would tend to agree about Tuesdays.

This has got to be a joke.

What a thing to see on the computer this morning – Winter Storm Watch. That’s just not right!!! It is the end of April and they say there is a snow storm coming. We have the water pumping in the pool, some people were going to come camping this weekend – how can it snow? Last year at this time the kids wore shorts to our girls birthday party and this year they need snow suits. Makes you wonder why we live in Manitoba. If what the weather network says is true it sounds like at least we are not going to be the hardest hit. Let’s all keep our fingers and toes crossed that we only get rain here. But, we all know how accurate the weather forecast (LOL).
