Rain, rain go away

Ok the rain was nice we did need some, but now it is time for the heat to come back. There is one advantage to the cooler weather – the people that are here get the whole pool area to themselves. We have a group of two families staying in a room and tenting site. The kids basically had the run of the pool yesterday. We cranked the heat back up so it is still nice and toasty in the water. They were swimming in the rain yesterday morning and didn’t seem to mind.

We had another big family pass through last night on their way from Wisconsin to Alaska. When he booked he told me that they were moving up there. I am sure that they have a good reason to move there, but I personally don’t know what it would be. A nice place to visit, but live up there I just don’t know. Some of their group was also able to relax in the hot tub after the all day drive.

I just read this on the activity listing from another website. I am now putting red bull on my shopping list.

Mon Flashlight Games

Family Activity, rec hall at 8:30 PM

un-accompanied children will be fed Pixie Sticks and Red Bull. Bring a flashlight and a bag.

Overall it was kind of a depressing weekend, not very busy at all. Between no shows, cancels, changes in bookings it just wasn’t a very busy weekend. We still had about 10 sites at various times during the weekend, some were here already and left on Saturday, some stayed only one night etc. Considering it was a 30 degree day in July on Sat it was pretty slow. This rain today is certainly not going to help this weekends bookings.

We are doing bit of a movie marathon in the rec building this morning. We are watching Scooby Doo 2 right now and might as well put another one on after this because it is not a great morning to be outside.

The Easter egg hunt went over pretty well. I think that they were all found, but considering we hid 15 dozen there could still be some hiding that we have forgotten about. The craft wasn’t very popular though. We had my two kids, two other girls and one big kid at heart. Easter will become another annual Ducky Event. We even had some teenagers go around and try to find the eggs. They didn’t pick them up, but just marked on the map where they were. We didn’t put an offical age limit, but we did limit the number of eggs they could find until Sunday morning. Sunday some kids were coming in with 20 or so eggs and some adults too.

Friday already? Where did the week go?

I feel like I lost a few days. I can’t believe another weekend is here already. We did the Easter Bunny thing this morning and got all our eggs hidden. I put a limit of 3 eggs per kid until Sunday morning then it will be a free for all. This way it will hopefully turn out to be somewhat fair. They have to turn in the eggs to the office to get their prize.

We have quite a few sites booked already, but still have lots open. That may change as the weather gets hotter and hotter. We may have a few more last minuters.

Everything is finalized to start fishing. A weekend license for adults will be $10; kids purchased with an adult will be $5. Seasonal licenses for adults will be $20; kids $10. We will be set to start next weekend. We bought some supplies to have on hand to sell – rods, hooks, floats etc.

Name less ducks no more

We officially named our ducks last night. We decided on Molly, Zack and Cody. Not necessarily the most traditional animal names, but we are not the most traditional campground. As you may have guessed they were mostly named by two girlies with my final approval.  Molly is easy to distinguish as she is the little one. Zack and Cody are pretty hard to tell apart right now, we just use the names generically for either duck. they have grown so much in the last few week or so. You could literally see a difference from one day to the next.

A long long weekend

This weekend seemed to go on and on and on. Sunday we had 6 sites switch over, so it was almost like a second weekend starting all over again. Some of  the sites left on  Monday, but the majority didn’t leave until yesterday. I know that some people just went to work from here Mon morning then came back for yesterday.

Saturday we had a problem getting people to come out of their sties to do stuff. We set up hte bouncer by the playground on Sat afternoon and other than my girls we only had 4 other kids come out. We had quite a few train’/boucher writbands sold and there were signs everywhere telling people when it was so I don’t really know why noone came out. Not to mention the fact that it is a big yellow and red inflatable thing that kind of grabs your attention. Sat night we had athe band on the picnic shelter stage and a few people came and sat and listened. The people in the sites in the front just stayed in their sites, but those in the back nver came out to listen.  It was kind of a waste having them here since for the last two sets they didn’t even have a visible audience. We cooked up some homemade french fries on Sunday afternoon. I am guessing that we went through well over 30 pounds of taters. We used the big deep fryer outside so that everyone gets the waft of greasy french fry smell that is soo hard to resist. Sunday afternoon was also birthday cake. It started off slow , but eventually we went through two large cakes. Fireworks went pretty good on Sunday evening. Some other campers brought some to add to ours.  The pool was packed from Fri night until last night and the slushees were flying out the door. It was finally time to get to enjoy the hot weather. Unfortunately this year we have the mosquitos to deal with. They have been bad right around dusk but then luckily they seem to disappear within half and hour or so.

My swimming lessons have finally been scheduled. They will be from July 21-31. I have sent out the email info, now this afternoon I have to do up some posters to put up in town. I have already had a good deal of interest so it shouldn’t be a problem filling the spots.

We had a test fish this weekend. Our volunteer fisherman caught 3 throughout the weekend. I hear that only 2 were able to be released though. One little fella coudn’t make it. He weighed in at around 1/2 pound and 10 inches long. We will be looking at getting fishing started in the next week or so. I did up a prototype ducky fishing license the other day and now need to do up the ducky fishing guide. We will be picking up some supplies to have on hand for rent or sale.

Well it is time to carry on with my catching up from last weekend and getting ready for another one. It will be here before I know it. It is Easter in July this weekend.

The calm before the storm

I am finally wireless again. In fact I am sitting by the pool as I type this. The girlies are getting one last swim before the weekend hits. We were in Stonewall this morning stocking up on supplies, then I got another batch of chicken wings precooked and ready to go. The boys got the last mowing and trimming done this morning and Dennis got some maintenance done on the mini golf. So, all that said I think we are now ready for the weekend. I have 3 sites here right now and am still expecting another 2 maybe 3 tonight. I still have  one RV site open for the whole weekend and can’t seem to get rid of it. I had another site cancel and rebook within 30 minutes.

We got some new Rubber Ducky Resort shirts in yesterday. They are navy and have a much better picture of our logo than the last ones. It also looks very sharp on the navy shirts. We also got some hoodies this time too. I think that these shirts will sell pretty good.

July long

Well I think that I have finalized the schedule for the July long weekend. We just added a band on Saturday night. We had one last year and I kind of held off because it is not really a long weekend with the holiday on Tuesday. We finally connected with a guy we know that books bands and he had this one available in our budget. They are a two piece band that plays mainly older rock I believe. They are called Scenic Root.  Hopefully everyone enjoys them. So that means our garage sale is Sat morning, the inflatable bouncer is Sat afternoon, the band is Sat night, Birthday cake is Sun afternoon and fireworks are Sun evening. I still only have one electrical/water site left. For some reason the people that have called don’t want that site. It is one of the ones beside the pool and backing on to the playground. I am assuming it is the location that is holding them back unfortunately. I personally would like the location. Being close to the pool and playground would work perfectly for me with the girls, but I know it all depends on your situation. I did have one of the most popular sites open up with a cancellation this morning. I have already emailed someone that was looking yesterday and I don’t imagine it will take long for me to get rid of it.

I am training a new employee this afternoon. Hopefully the last one I have to train this summer since it is not one of my favorite jobs. I don’t know exactly what it is about the training part that I don’t like, maybe just that there is so much to go over and I am always worried I will forget something.

It didn’t seem to cool down too much last night. At least we didn’t get the thunderstorms that they were forecasting. They are calling for rain on Friday and otherwise hot the rest of the weekend. Maybe by tomorrow they will change it to no rain, that would be much better.

We were out feeding the ducks this morning and one of our little chipmunks decided he wanted some too. He came within about 10 feet of us and grabbed the bread and ran. They are sure getting tame and used to people.

Oh no couldn’t be easy

I am still attached to my leash this morning. I unplugged one router and plugged the other one in and voila nothing. Why couldn’t it just be easy? I am guessing from my limited knowledge that the router needs to be configured differently but it is beyond my. So now I have to wait to hear back from our computer guy to get things up and running again.

As it sits right now I only have one rv site open for this weekend. I have a couple that are open only Sunday and Monday. There are still a few tenting sites and I have no rooms booked yet. I have been trying to sort girlie clothes to get ready for the garage sale on Sat morning.  I will be selling the stuff by the box full for cheap get-it-out-of-my-house prices so if you know anyone who is looking for stuff in approx size 2-4 send them my way.

I ordered my Canada Day fireworks yesterday.from fireworkscheckout.com. They give free delivery right to my door. Now that’s a deal that I can’t refuse. We usually do a kids fireworks at around 7:00pm for the little kids that will be in bed before dark and they had one that shoots off streamers so I thought that was perfect.

Tonight is another quad club meeting here. I am not expecting too much of a crowd as it is getting to be that busy time of the year. It will still be a fairly quiet day around here. Two sites are leaving today, one tomorrow. I am not expecting anyone in until Thurs. Kind of the calm before the storm for this weekend.

Just heard that Canad Inns is planning to build a new waterpark by Polo Park. The small price tag is only 43 million. Sounds like it should be quite the facility.

I’m back

No I didn’t drop off the face of the earth but my internet did. Our modem went down Wednesday night. MTS was out on Friday morning to fix it up but our wireless is still down so I am still attached to a leash basically. Our hardwired jack is located in the house and it is really cramping my style. I am used to using the computer here there and everywhere. Hopefully tomorrow or Wed the wireless will be back online.

Last week managed to fly by extremely fast. Thursday morning I cooked breakfast for the one camping club before they pulled out. The other club was here until Friday morning then those sites quickly filled up with the Warren baseball group. We were quite full this weekend actually.  By my quick count there was over 15 overnight sites which is amazing for  a weekend in June before school is done.  I am excited and a little scared to see just exactly what the summer weekends will bring. Friday night at 10:30pm we had 3 trucks and boats from Minnesota stop in looking for rooms. They were on their way to Grand Rapids and had had enough driving for the day. “A woman with long red hair walking a dog” apparently sent them our way so a thanks to you whoever you are.

It is nice to see that the weather has turned around and is finally cooperating. Overall it was a good weekend. We did have a storm pass through on Saturday night but it was fortunately short lived. There was quite a bit of hail that came out of it. I heard there was even some snowballs being thrown around after and there were some snow drifts. Just a little something to keep things interesting.

I know that some kids are already done but school is offically finished tomorrow around here. Then it is  time for all the kids to start driving their parents crazy and that summer camping season will also begin.

It looks like I should be off my leash by the end of today. Trying to stay in one spot long enough to type this is proving difficult this morning and it has taken me over an hour to do.

Another weekend done

Considering the weekend began with a Tornado warning it turned out pretty good.  The weather wasn’t the warmest, but it was still tolerable. It didn’t seem to stop anyone from going in the pool. We were quite full on Saturday night as we had 4 drive up sites in addition to the reservations. One was a couple from Austria in a truck camper. That must have been quite the drive (?lol). They were able to communicate in English, but it was a little difficult. Our kids rock painting craft went over fairly well. We had about 10 kids come out to give it a try. I hear some of the masterpieces became father’s day gifts.

Today is cleanup and regroup to get ready for two camping clubs coming in tomorrow. We have a load of crushed rock on the way to touch up some areas that have taken a bit of a beating from all the rain that we got last week.   One of the clubs has 15 sites and one room booked. The other club has  7 sites. Hopefully things don’t get too confusing as we try to sort out and regsiter who is with which club. This should make for a busy week around here. The forecast looks like it will be great weather right through the week. Could this be the turning point and summer will be here now?
