Rubber Ducky Resort & Campground – A family campground located in Warren, near Winnipeg, Manitoba

This has been an interesting couple days with regards to site bookings. I had a group of 8 sites that had booked last year and when I phoned to confirm they informed me that they had cancelled the reservation. Unfortunately they forgot to inform me of that fact. So, Wed afternoon I had 8 sites open for the weekend and of course I was away from the office and didn’t have any phone numbers or contacts for those that had been looking for a site. Once I got home I spent half an hour or so making calls to people that had been looking for a  site before. Luckily the phone was still ringing to book more sites and within a couple hours I was back to full capacity. Until yesterday when someone else phoned to cancel their site. So as of this morning I have one site left.  I don’t imagine that it will last very long today. With a nice sunny day there should be at least one more person looking for a site.

We are having some difficulty getting Rock Band set up. We bought the Rock Band new and have tried it in 3 different systems and it still will not play. We are not quite sure what to do now. It seems to be a problem with the Rock band itself, but we don’t know if we will be able to get into Winnipeg to get a new one. If nothing else we will have Karaoke on Sat anyway.

I must vent on one thing this morning. I came out to the pool area and found a dirty diaper lying on the ground. Now all I have to say is WHY???? There is a garbage can just over there and it is really not necessary.

This is going to my busy busy day today. With all the campers coming in, one room changing over and being a little shorter staffed than I would like I won’t have much time to breath today.  Tomorrow will be a little slower paced.

We have made a small schedule change for the August long weekend. We are changing the Karaoke to Rock Band. We figured that would be a little more popular than Karaoke. More people would be willing to get up and play the guitar than do the singing. I think this afternoon we will set it up and try it out for ourselves.

We have confirmed a second set of swimming lessons in August. They will be starting on Aug 11 for two weeks with some in the morning and some in the evening.  I already have some confirmed kids who couldn’t make this session and also some that are doing both sessions.

Our ducks have really started to wander around and check things out. They make the trip from the pond and along to the side of the pool fence. They won’t take the bread out of our hands yet and keep their distance but we are working on them.

I don’t quite know why they even bother trying to forecast the weather anymore. They certainly have not been right very much this year. Last time I checked it was going to be sunny and hot all week. Today is definately not that way.

We were quite full this weekend. The front part of the campground was full and we even had 4 or 5 sites along Woodduck Way. Muscovy Cove was also full. We were full, but it was not crazy busy, just about right.  Everyone cleared out yesterday and you could shoot a cannon off through here by 4 in the afternoon. We did have a couple families come in to stay in the rooms and a few seasonals still out, but in comparison it just seemed dead. This week will be a little slower than last week, but this weekend will be a different story. We are completely full for the weekend and I am still getting phone calls. I even have a couple people on a waiting list in case of a cancellation.

Our Taco in a Bag seems to be getting a good response. I had never heard of them before and someone else was talking about seeing them someplace else and I thought that it sounded like a great idea to try here. I had to sample one myself on Friday before we officially sold any and they are a nice change from the usual stuff.

I managed to get my August newsletter finished yesterday and sent out this morning. Some of you may have already received it, if not you better get to our website and sign up. My contact list has been steadily growing and I believe that I am around 140 people for the regular newsletter. Hopefully at least some of them get read, and not just sent to the trash bin. I did have someone redeem the free mini golf coupon from last month’s newsletter so I know that she read it.

We have a wide variety of places that people are from right now. There was a family from Alberta  and a couple from Quebec that just left his morning.  A family from Ontario was here for a couple days earlier in the week. Right now we have campers from The Netherlands, BC, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Thompson, Portage La Prairie and Marquette. I think that I can honestly say they come from all over to camp at Rubber Ducky. I didn’t even realize what a range there was until I started to tally them up.

I got an ‘after’ picture of Jeff all cleaned up. He looks like a brand new man. But, the big question – will the mullet come back?

I don’t know if anyone else has been watching the weather forecast as closely as I have this week but the only thing that has not been forecasted is snow. We have gone from sunny and 26 to rain and 20 and now I think we are sitting at thundershowers and 24 or 28 depending on which forecast you look at. Give them an hour and they change it. If the all day rain will stay away it would be very helpful. I could live with showers, but of course that sunny and 26 would be perfect.

We didn’t get quite as much done yesterday as I had hoped, so today will be a busier day than I had hoped. We did get our sucker pull game done though. The girlies had fun helping to stick the suckers in too. I think that will be a poplular game, all they have to do is pull a sucker out and if they get one with a black spot on it they win a bigger prize. If not they get to keep the sucker. All the games are set up so that everyone who plays wins at least a small prize, then if you ‘win’ the game you get a bigger prize.

Everyone cross your finger, toes and whatever else you got that the weather cooperates. Cause if it doesn’t we are gonna have a lot of food left over. We have upped the number of people that we plan for supper so they better come now.

9:00-10:00 am – Breakfast (sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes, coffee, juice)

                             Adults $5.00

                             Kids 4-12 $3.50

                   Tickets can be purchased at the office anytime

All Weekend – Kiddie Train. $5 wristband includes unlimited train and bounceroo or 75c per ride.

Approx 11:00am – Silent Auction will be set out in the rec building. Draw will be approx 8:30pm

Lunchtime – Home made French Fries will be cooking. $2.25 each

1:00-4:00pm – Carnival style games near the playground. (everyone wins a prize)

2:00-4:00pm – Inflatable Bounceroo. $5 wristband includes unlimited train and bounceroo or 75c per bounce.

4:30pm – Country dance lessons by Allan Nelson’s Ballroom and Country Dance Company. FREE. (Near the picnic shelter)

5:00 and 6:00 – Baron of Beef Dinner will be served in two sittings. Includes roast beef, baked potato, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls.

                             Adults $15.00

                             Kids 6-12 $6.50

          Advance tickets must be purchased from the office all weekend.

7:00pm – Circuit Breaker will be on the picnic shelter stage

All proceeds from the breakfast, drink machine, silent auction, train/bounceroo wristbands, 50/50 draw, day passes and $2 from each dinner go directly to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
