I got an ‘after’ picture of Jeff all cleaned up. He looks like a brand new man. But, the big question – will the mullet come back?
The weather was kind enough to cooperate for us anyway. We did have a little shower pass through in the late afternoon. Unfortunately it was while they were trying to do dance lessons, but we had some troopers that stuck it out anyway. Our grand total for the Children’s Wish donation was $800. We were down from last year overall but at least it is better than nothing. We only served 60 suppers, whereas last year we did 125. We had more campers here than last year, but we didn’t get much for day traffic. We had about 30 or so kids take part in the games. The silent auction was a popular thing as always. We had one lucky site that won 3 prizes so I don’t think they were too popular among the non winners. The 50/50 pot was a record one – over $200. We also had an unexpected activity added during the day. We had a mullet cutting and Santa beard shaving.

This is Jeff from Site 1 before
This is the during, notice the chunk of hair in Brenda’s hand and the ringleader in the front. I don’t have a proper after picture yet, he had to go to someone who knew what they were doing to get a touch up. And, yes he was sober when he agreed to it contrary to what it appears in the pictures.
The clippers did come out, but they didn’t do a full shaving of the head.
All together – ewwwwww. Shake those crumbs out of that thing.
I think that this picture just speaks for itself.
Twirling the ‘stache.
They were able to raise $250 for the mullet cutting and beard shaving. It was alot of fun and I am laughing all over again just posting this. These guys were definately good sports and I suspect that in a few months mullet man and Santa Claus will be back again.
Circuit Breaker put on a good show as always. They had an extra backup singer ‘trying’ to help out. Making his debut appearance at Rubber Ducky Resort we present Jason Anderson
If you know him and see please be sure to tell him that he is famous and ask for this autograph.
All in all the day was a lot of fun and everyone helped to raise a lot of money for a good cause. Thank you to everyone who was involved in anyway.
I don’t know if anyone else has been watching the weather forecast as closely as I have this week but the only thing that has not been forecasted is snow. We have gone from sunny and 26 to rain and 20 and now I think we are sitting at thundershowers and 24 or 28 depending on which forecast you look at. Give them an hour and they change it. If the all day rain will stay away it would be very helpful. I could live with showers, but of course that sunny and 26 would be perfect.
We didn’t get quite as much done yesterday as I had hoped, so today will be a busier day than I had hoped. We did get our sucker pull game done though. The girlies had fun helping to stick the suckers in too. I think that will be a poplular game, all they have to do is pull a sucker out and if they get one with a black spot on it they win a bigger prize. If not they get to keep the sucker. All the games are set up so that everyone who plays wins at least a small prize, then if you ‘win’ the game you get a bigger prize.
Everyone cross your finger, toes and whatever else you got that the weather cooperates. Cause if it doesn’t we are gonna have a lot of food left over. We have upped the number of people that we plan for supper so they better come now.
Well the schedule is finalized.

After a weekend of pouring rain and wind and dealing with the financial outcomes of losing the sign this was nice to find in my inbox.
Guest Book Entry from kim orr from southport mb
have fallen in love with your campground, even if it rains and the wind blows 70km++ still a great place to be..kids LOVE it..happy kids=happy parents..
This was a family that were tenting here this past weekend and have been here a few other weekends as well. I am glad to see that even with hiding out in the rec building from the rain and all their stuff getting soaking wet there were still some good points. They had taken a late checkout on Sunday so were able to at least enjoy that day.
We now have a redneck sort of sign. They were nice enough to leave the reflective ‘camping’ sign behind, so Dennis took a sheet of plywood and attached that to the top.
We have another camper that is stopping here on their way to Alaska. It’s funny that all of a sudden in the last month or so we have had 3 different groups on their way North to Alaska. These ladies are from Michigan and are planning to be gone for 3 months.
Someone stopped in on Sunday to tell us that our sign was knocked down, so Dennis goes out ready to put it back up. It’s gone?! Someone pulled the sign part out and left the holder behind. So if anyone happens to see a 4′ by 8′ sign with a big Rubber Ducky on it please let us know. We are planning to offer a reward for its return. Hopefully someone, somewhere will have seen or heard something. It’s not really something you can hide or hang on your basement wall. We don’t quite understand why someone would find pleasure in this. I have had people comment to me that we should have more signs. This should answer the question as to why we don’t. This is actually the 2nd sign that has been stolen.
Clear blue skies and bright sunshine was sure a nice sight this morning. Yesterday was downright depressing. Noone went near the pool until around 8:30 last night and then we figure they must have just given up on the rain stopping and decided to just swim anyway. At least the pool was warm, just the trip back to the camper would be a little chilly. Needless to say noone tried fishing yesterday. Sounds like our tenters were a little water logged. The one family spent a good portion of the day in the rec building. We had a not bad turnout for the ice cream social – 8 people. Considering it was a miserable day I would call that a success. The one nice thing about the ice cream social for me is that it doesn’t matter how many people show up. I don’t really have to do anything extra and nothing goes to waste because it is all stuff that will keep or get used. The craft didn’t go over at all, no one showed up. It looks like we will be phasing out craft time, but I still have a couple more days scheduled so we will see.
The long term forecast for Duckyfest is showing sunny and 26. I hope they are right, that sounds just about perfect.
I sold my first fishing license yesterday. I am not sure how his luck turned out. He was out for a while in the early evening and had a couple bites. He was back out around feeding time and I am not sure how things turned out. It’s funny to watch the little guys when they are feeding because they move so fast and zip up grab the food and take off. Some of the will go so far as to do backflips even. The bigger guys move a little slower.
We had some hoodlums here the other day. They tore 4 holes in the mesh on the last mini golf hole and helped themselves to all the balls. We know who it was, but of course can’t prove it, unless we call in Grissom to do some CSI.
It sure sucked to be in a tent last night. That was a nasty storm that went through. I am not sure yet how everyone faired, but I am sure they must be a little damp and tired from being awake.
We were part of promotion through Interlake tourism earlier this summer. It was a radio contest on groove fm where they had to phone in at a certain time or something like that. The winner will be coming here on Saturday. They are coming to Warren on the Prairie Dog Vintage Locomotive, going to spend the afternoon and evening at the Pioneer Quest cabins, spending the night here and then going back on the train Sunday. Hopefully the weather straightens out for them. Today is sure starting out to be a dark and dreary day.
Our resident scavenger (Metro for those that know) found me a bingo machine recently. I put the word out to him earlier this year that I would like to start doing the odd bingo night and somehow in his Metro way he managed to find a machine. I believe the polite term is vintage, or we can call it an old relic. But, it is still in good condition and it works. Now I just need to find some balls. We found some at a store in Winnipeg, but they were verrrrry high priced – twice as much as the machine itself. I am sure that I can find a better price.
Dennis went out to feed the fish last night and there was a momma deer standing in the canola watching him. We haven’t seen much sign of the deer lately but obviously they are still here. A couple years ago you would always see them crossing the road from one bush to the other. In the spring I did see some tracks near the fish pond, but this is the first sign we have seen for months. Now we will have to really keep watch for tracks around the pond.
Today is the last official day for swimming registration but I am sure I will get some late registrations. Including my kids we have 38 kids registered already. I have a couple people that I still have to touch base with to confirm the details but I know they are planning to register. So I am looking at being over 45 kids for the session. Make that 39, I just got another phone call. Next is the fun job of figuring out the schedule. I try to accommodate as many time requests as possible, but that can be difficult sometimes.
