September Long Fun

Mother Nature threw some iffy weather at us this past weekend but we all made the best of it anyway. As some people commented it was hard to complain about the rain considering how dry it was. We certainly needed some moisture. The rain didn’t dampen the activities of the weekend however.

We had a few last minute chickens back out of the chicken wing eating contest leaving us with only 5 competitors this year.

It was a cleaner competition than it had been in other years. There wasn’t as much sauce smeared all over faces, shirts and up to the elbows. When it was all said and done Darryl was the Chicken Wing King for 2011. He’s had lot of practice and lots of wings behind his belt so came as no surprise that he was able to inhale them the fastest.

Sunday afternoon the kids got into the action with some cupcake eating. The goal was to see who could eat the cupcake the fastest without using their hands.

Hayden was the hands done winner across the board. I think he somehow inhaled his without evening taking a  bite. lol

We had a small group of adults that was willing to give it a try.

Sunday afternoon was yet again another sad day for Bomber fans. I feel like a broken record with the same comment every September long. Oh well let’s hope that the Banjo Bowl will turn out better this weekend. As always it will be on the Big Screen.

Scrapyard Paintball had been testing out a portable paintball field all weekend. There were a few people wondering what the big black thing was by the mini golf. On Sunday evening they were able to start playing a few rounds of two on two. It was an interesting addition to our weekend entertainment.

Although the calendar may say summer is over the weather sure doesn’t. With the temperatures hovering near 30C all weekend we are guaranted at least one more great camping weekend.  On Saturday we will be doing a rock painting craft, ice cream social and Family dance to end the evening. I have a couple campers coming in today to take advantage of our make it a long weekend special and with the hot weather this week it has still been fairly busy around here. I still have a few spots left for the weekend. So if you want to come out an enjoy one more camping weekend. Give me a call (1-866-254-7636) or book online

Wet N Wild Weekend

It was time for back to school fun at Rubber Ducky this weekend. Our scavenger hunt list included a total of 35 items for our campers to find.  Most worked in teams and took their time going around the campground.  The first group to complete the list got a bonus of a slushee or ice cream sundae. Then we took the names of all the groups that completed the list and made a drawing to see who would be the winner. We had 20 teams that managed to find all 35 items on the list and the winning team was Brian and Justyce. They received a snack pack of chips, chocolate bars, drinks and candies.

Later in the afternoon we did some Wet N Wild Games. The first game was one I found on the internet and seemed like it would be harder than it actually was. The kids had to draw a face on a balloon, smear it with shaving cream and shave it with a plastic knife. The kids seemed to have fun but there were no popped balloons and no shaving cream poofs or splatters.

The next game was the bucket relay. It was a good day for getting wet as they sponged the water from one pail to the next.

We couldn’t do wet games without a water balloon toss. This got a few splashes happening.

What we thought was to be the last activity was a hula hoop contest.

The Wild part of the games started next when the shaving cream wars started. A certain big kid started it and before you knew it there was cream smeared in hair, on glasses and all over anyone that was standing nearby.  And there was lots of laughing going along with it.

We are now gearing up for one of the last big weekends of the summer. September long at the Duck means it’s time for the annual chicken wing eating contest.  I have approximately 800 wings on order, ready for some hungry people.  And we will also be cooking up a whole bunch of cupcakes for the cupcake eating contest.  I am looking forward to another great long weekend before it is time for back to school.

Valentine’s Day

Before Saturday was even finished we had already declared Valentine’s Day a huge success.  We started the day with a Bubble Zone. We put out all sorts of wands and let the kids (and adults) go wild. We had bubbles floating all through the air for almost an hour.

Later in the afternoon we pulled out the craft supplies and let the imaginations go wild. The rec building was full of kids of all ages. Some of the kids took advantage of this craft time to make some secret Valentine’s to send out to their friends and secret crushes.

Saturday evening was time for our Valentine’s Dance in the picnic shelter. We were able to set up a bit of a light show and crank up the tunes for a couple hours of fun for everyone. We were pleasantly surprised at how many people came out and even more surprised at how many actually danced. We were a little worried that it might turn out like a school dance where everyone sits against the wall and watches. But our campers proved us wrong.

Even the Duck tried to dance.

YMCA gets em moving

A big thank you to everyone that helped with the activities.  We are already planning to do Valentine’s Day again next year.

This weekend coming up is our Back to School weekend. There will be a scavenger hunt and also some Wet N Wild games. The evening will end off with a movie in the Outdoor theatre.  As I write this I still have a couple campsites and a camping cabin available. If you want to come out and enjoy a sunny weekend before school starts, you can book online www.rubberduckyresort.com or phone toll free 1-866-254-7636.

The last couple weeks I have started doing a Wednesday night movie in the Rec Building. This week will be Nim’s Island at 8pm

Halloween in August

As always Halloween in August was a popular weekend.  We had some good costumes and also some last minute scrounge the campsite to see what we could find costumes.  Last year we had to contend with cold, pouring rain. This year we couldn’t have asked for a better day.  We stuck with the tried and true and the kids never seem to tire of it. The bobbing for apples starts the day. There were some kids that I think would have bobbed all day if we let them. I didn’t count, but a couple kids must have done at least 7 apples. After the ice cream social we moved on to the ghoulish games.  We wrapped some mummies and found some eyeballs in brains.  Some kids were not too sure about the brains once they stuck their hands in. This face says it all

I heard reports that there were close to 100 kids out for the trick or treating. A lot of them seem to forget to stop and see us at the office so I have to rely on my campers to keep track. It took just over half an hour to make the rounds.

It was almost too hot for the duck…..

We had some good decorating in the sites this year too.

There are more pictures on our facebook page. Check them out here. https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Rubber-Ducky-Resort-and-Campground/6108262485

This weekend coming up our theme is Valentine’s Day. As I write this I am also finishing downloading all the music for our Valentine’s Day dance on Saturday evening.  The plan is to do some crafts, hand out some secret Valentine’s and have a dance in the evening.

Fear Factor

Fear was not a factor at Rubber Ducky this past weekend. We had 11 kids teams and 8 adults teams doing battle. The kids were not too fond of our dog food (canned ham), tofu, onion, baby food, and hot pepper. Most were able to finish it, but the tofu really got them. From the food they moved on to the obstacle course. They had to search through a bucket of pea gravel to find a lucky key, jump through some hoops, under a chair tunnel and try to unlock the jail to release their partner. The top 3 teams were Jessica and Serena; Matt and Jesse; Madison and Raevin.

For the adults we switched up the food a little and added in some green pickled eggs, beef liver, chicken livers, oysters and kept the tofu and hot peppers. Apparently the tofu was a little icky because it stumbled up some of the adults too. In the end we only had 3 teams that were able to make it past the eating and onto the obstacle course. I decided to change the chair tunnel to a table tunnel. There may have been some stuck adults if we went the other way. The top adults teams were Brian and Justyce; Chad and Heather; Mike and Matthew.  One of the adults ‘jailbirds’ actually works on the other side of the bars in real life, so everyone got a few laughs out of that.

It was a great way to spend an hour or so and we hope everyone enjoyed particpating and watching. A big thank you to the volunteers and contestants.  Click this link to see all the pictures.  http://s788.photobucket.com/albums/yy164/RubberDuckyResort/Fear%20Factor/

Coming up this weekend it is halloween in August. That means games, decorating, pool bobbing for apples and of course trick or treating.  There may even be a little watermelon carving.
