It has been a common occurrence to walk around the campground and see the Geese in the pond, by the playground, by the mini golf or wherever. But this one through me for a loop this morning.
Maybe planters make good nests? I’m not sure. But she sure seems like a silly goose to me.

We all know that last Winter and Spring was unusually warm. We all know that this Winter and Spring has been unusually cold. I don’t remember when there have been two more different years. So over the last month, I have been trying not to make the ‘this time last year’ statements. It just didn’t seem fair to compare the two and not to mention that it made this Spring feel so much worse. Until today that is. We have a vague remembrance that by this time last year we were already moving trees, finishing man made lakes and making campsites. But we couldn’t remember exactly the dates that we did things. Today I remembered that our construction start date on the pool last year was April 9. As I spoke those words out loud, the full reality of the difference between the two years truly sunk in. April 9. Today is April 10. Wow. Really?

I would like to keep a positive spin on things, but this really sucks. It’s time to camp already.
We are now accepting applications for the upcoming season. If you or anyone you know is looking for a summer job check out the details on our website. An employment application form can be downloaded and returned by email or in person. Some positions will start in April and some will start in June.
As I was coming in the driveway the other evening something strange caught my eye. It was still just barely light out so all I could make out were two blobs on the pond. As my brain tried to process what it could be I looked a little farther and saw the distinctive long neck of a Canada Goose. That could only mean one thing – our feathery friends have come back for their annual visit.
While they are a little confused they did assure me that yes Spring will be here soon.
There are actually three of them, but one was being camera shy.
One of the common questions we get asked is where to rent a camper. Until now I haven’t really had an answer. Earlier this week we had the pleasure of meeting Colin from Camper Dude RV Rentals. If you have you been wanting to try RVing, but don’t want to spend the big money to buy a camper or maybe you just need a camper for one week to relax with friends at their favorite campground. This is a good place to check out. Camper Dude RV Rentals offers rental trailers ranging from tent trailers to 26ft travel trailers. You don’t even need to have your own camping supplies. Camper Dude supplies everything from dishes to BBQ’s.
As I sit here looking out the window at yet another cold, drab, dreary day I start to wonder just what type of weather have we experienced in the past. I am questioning whether this is normalish and we are just jaded after last spring’s totally abnormal temperatures. So off I go to my trusty Environment Canada website to check the stats and see just what is normal for Winnipeg in Mid March. Short answer- it’s not supposed to be this cold 😦 According to their site the normal high is -1C. In 2009 and 2010 we were close to 7C; 2011 was a little cooler at 3C. And for those that don’t remember 2012 it was 14C. Yet today’s forecast high is -15C. There is no way to sugar coat it, this sucks. As an interesting tidbit I noticed that in 2009 on March 10 and 11 the highs were around -19, then by the 14th we had jumped up to 2.4.
In keeping with the glass half full attitude I was quite happy to wake up this morning and see that we thankfully did not get the forecast snow. My fingers are still crossed that we will make it through the rest of the weekend with more wrong forecasts. As much as I understand the theory of a slow melt, would it really be THAT bad if it was suddenly 14C tomorrow.

Despite the winter like weather some people are starting to think camping. In the past month we have already added another 5 families to our list of seasonal campers. It looks like there are lots of families starting to plan their summer vacations and coordinate schedules with extended family and friends. We have seen a definite increase in the number of out of province visitors that are booking for stays of a week or more.
Only 30 days until camping season.
Are you coming to check out the campers at the RV Show this weekend? It’s that time of year when it is fun to wander around the Convention Center and see what’s new. It really doesn’t matter if you are seriously shopping or just browsing it always seems to make camping season feel a little closer to reality.

This weekend is the start of ‘show season’ It all begins with the Mid Canada Boat Show to get our thoughts turning to warmer temperatures and long days on the lake. From Feb 28 until Mar 3 the Convention Center will be filled with everything boat related.
This part sounds like a must see:

Watch as the pros demonstrate their best casting techniques from a boat perched on the roof of the tank. Through the trailer’s glass walls you’ll be able to see each cast as the fish do. Learn what will make them bite and what won’t.

Another interesting spot to check out will be the Interlake Tourism Booth. In case you didn’t know Rubber Ducky Resort is located in the Interlake region of Manitoba. And if you happen to be at the show on Saturday afternoon, stop by to say Hi as I will be volunteering at that Booth.
Thursday night is Ladies Night so that means free admission for all the ladies. You have until 10 pm tonight to head down.
